Oakland Thugs Wanted For Rape, Attempted Murder |

It was just after 6 a.m. on July 31, 2008, when an East Oakland, Calif. man left his sleeping wife in bed and headed to work. However, cops say, this routine departure was being watched by two of the Bay Area's most violent and sadistic criminals.
In the days prior, police believe that 18-year-old Apondo White and his friend, Frank Savoy, scoped out the home in East Oakland thinking that it would be an easy hit for a home invasion after seeing a woman leave the home with a laptop in tow. Nothing could have prepared anyone for the heinous events to follow.
Cops say that after her husband left, the woman was awoken by Apondo White who ordered her out of bed and her bedroom at gunpoint.
Once in the main room, the victim was struck in the head with a hammer by Savoy. Authorities say that the single act of violence triggered Savoy to drag the female victim back into the bedroom and rape her. Meanwhile, cops say White scoured the house for valuables and came up largely empty-handed.
The victim told police that Savoy asked White if he wanted a turn at raping the woman. Police believe that's when White attempted to cover their tracks by killing their victim -- but the gun jammed and fired a single bullet into the floor.
After failing to shoot the woman, Savoy hit her over the head with a guitar, and the pair fled the scene. The whole harrowing ordeal lasted less than 20 minutes.
The female victim survived, police were called to the scene and sent DNA to a crime lab. However, investigators wouldn't have to wait long for a break in the case. |

One Violent Suspect Down, One To Go |

The next morning, Oakland Police officers were flagged down by a woman nearly a mile away from the previous day's crime scene. She said she was a local apartment manager and was being forced to house two men who had raped her and pistol-whipped a friend.
When cops arrived at her home, they found Apondo White and another woman, who is a suspect in other crimes. In the apartment, cops found credit cards and a laptop computer belonging to the rape victim from the day before, in addition to a rifle, shotgun parts and ammunition that has been linked to another crime.
Most importantly, cops found blood smears on the laptop and on a pair of shoes.
Cops brought Apondo White in for questioning but didn't have enough evidence to charge him at the time.
Frank Savoy was also arrested and remains in custody. Cops tell AMW that in a one month span, Savoy was linked to another rape in the area, multiple burglaries, and other violent crimes in Oakland.
Investigators say having him off the streets has had a measurable impact on making Oakland a safer place.
Soon thereafter, the DNA evidence on the shoes and a sweatshirt found in the apartment later helped cops link Apondo White to the crime scene in East Oakland and now they need help in locating a suspect believed to be one of the worst Oakland has ever seen.
Apondo White is 5'8", 220 lbs., with short black hair. Cops say he goes by the nicknames "Peanut" or "AP" which stands for "anger problems." Police tell AMW that while he appears soft-spoken, he's actually extremely sadistic, violent and should be considered armed and dangerous. |
