  Case Story
Amid Inclement Weather, Young Wisc. Mother Vanishes
Law enforcement officials, friends, family and members of a rural Wisconsin community are out in full force, seeking a missing mother of twin 2-year-old boys. Alisha Sidie, 27, vanished without a trace after a heated argument with her ex-husband, Douglas, on the evening of Friday, November 7, 2008.  Friends tell AMW that although Alisha and Douglas were legally divorced, that they were working things out, and living in the same home with their toddler twin boys. Nearly 24 hours after Alisha went missing, Douglas, 39, filed a missing person's report. Cops have since learned that Alisha walked away from her home after their verbal altercation, leaving behind her car and other possessions, as she trekked out into the woods of Hatfield, Wisc., a small agricultural area approximately 100 miles away from both Green Bay and Madison. The days following her disappearance were bitterly cold, dipping into the low 20s, though in the days since, they had risen to the mid 30s. Along with the freezing temperatures, Sgt. Patrick La Barbera of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department tells AMW that while he was heading to the command post on Wednesday morning, there was a steady rain with some light sleet mixed in -- far from optimal conditions for anyone to be walking around in, especially someone as ill-equipped as Alisha apparently was at the time of her disappearance. According to Sgt. La Barbera, Doug Sidie said she left the house wearing only a long-sleeved, white shirt with blue hospital scrubs and white tennis shoes.  Alisha works as a Chiropractic Assistant at a clinci in Black River on the weekends, and during the week, friends say she is enrolled in a nursing program. From what investigators have learned, they believe Alisha has her cell phone with her, though she has not answered it since she's disappeared.  Friends tell AMW her last phone call was at 9:19 p.m. on the night she went missing, and it was not a frantic call, but she did call to talk to a friend about an argument Alisha and her ex-husband Doug had earlier on.  She has not reported to either of her two jobs, at a chiropractic office, or at The Sunset Tavern, where she works as a bartender. On Tuesday, November 11, 2008, Sgt. La Barbera says 173 people helped out in the search for Alisha, many of whom were volunteers. Over the course of the following days, weather hampered the turnout, but people still turned out to help find Alisha. A Wisconsin Emergency Management unit, a crisis management team utilized for large-scale searches, major inclement weather situations, and general emergencies, has been deployed to the area. Their mobile command post has been set up at the Hatfield Fire Department, and at a nearby restaurant, The Mug, the American Red Cross and Salvation Army have been on hand to provide food and warmth for law enforcement and the search parties.

Cops Still Hopeful For Missing Wisc. Mom's Safe Return
Sgt. La Barbera tells AMW that as far as they know, this is the first time Alisha has gone missing. Alisha was born and raised in Jackson County, and according to police, is well-liked by all those who knew her. Her two jobs enabled her to meet and become friends with many members of the close-knit Hatfield community, and she's not known to have made any enemies. Throughout the search, investigators want to keep all available options on the table, but they "do not suspect foul play at this particular point," says Sgt. La Barbera. However, on the evening of Thursday, November 13, less than a week after Alisha vanished into thin air, police temporarily suspended the volunteer effort. Crime scene technicians from the Wisconsin state crime lab have arrived in the area, and have surrounded the Sidie household with police tape while they search the home for any clues that could potentially lead to her whereabouts. Three different teams of investigators have been brought in, and nine K9 units have been utilized to help out in the search. Even with the involvement of state crime scene investigators and their thorough search of Sidie's property, "there is no definitive evidence of any particular criminality at this particular time," says Sgt. La Barbera. Police have been talking to Alisha's ex-husband, Doug, on a near-constant basis, and they now consider him a "person of interest" in Alisha's disappearance, due to the fact that he is the last person to see her alive. However, according to Sgt. La Barbera, "Mr. Sidie is definitely not a suspect at this time."  Since Alisha went missing, police tell us that Doug has been remained completely cooperative, returning all phone calls, and not dodging them in any way. Last night, Sgt. La Barbera, Sheriff Duane Waldera, and a captain with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department sat down with Alisha's family members for about an hour, discussing the different scenarios and directions the investigation has taken them. Sgt. La Barbera also tells us that many members of the Hatfield community, including law enforcement, turned out for a candlelight vigil, hoping and praying for Alisha's safe return.
