Cops: Woman Brutally Battered Near Main Florida Road |
|
| |
Cops in Gainesville, Fla. are searching for a suspect they say violently attacked a woman -- and could strike again.
The woman was jogging on a trail near her home around 6:30 a.m. when a man hit her in the head with a gun, breaking her jaw, according to Det. Heather Phillips of the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.
Cops say the suspect forced her to the ground, sexually battered her and then left the scene -- apparently without any signs of remorse.
A witness told police he saw the suspect walk right past him, calmly, then casually sit in his car before driving away.
Police describe the car as small and dark-colored.
The suspect parked the car, against the flow of traffic at the entrance of the Indigo Square Subdivision of Haile Plantation, according to police.
Cops say the trail passes by the entrance, which is located on a main, four-lane road.
According to police, the scene of the attack would have been visible to people passing by and the suspect made no attempt to hide.
Cops say the woman's injuries might have been fatal if a passerby had not found her.
Police describe the suspect as a black male in his late 30's to early 40's with a dark complexion, medium build and natural hair about one inch long.
He was wearing a black shirt and black shorts, and was armed with a silver-colored handgun, according to police.
The community responded to the attack by planning several walks and events to raise money and a reward of up to $20,000 is offered for information leading to an arrest.
But the attacker is still on the loose, and cops have little to go on. If you have any information about the suspect or attack, call our hotline at 1-800-CRIME-TV. |
