  Case Story
Police: Husband Kills Wife In Front Of Children
Kannapolis, N.C. police say at 10:44 p.m. on August 2, 2008, Laticia Alvarez called 9-1-1 to report a possible assault. Laticia told them she had reason to believe that someone was hurt. When police arrived at the residence, they found the bodies of 27-year-old Lorena Manzanares Soto and 24-year-old Javier Jimenez inside. They had both been shot several times. When police later questioned Laticia, the 9-1-1 caller, they learned that around 8:30 p.m. earlier that night, her brother, Joaquin Alvarez Rios, 25, showed up at her home with his three children, ages 4, 10, and 5. His sister told police that Rios found his wife, Lorena, with someone else, and he said he had done something terrible. He then left his three children with her and took off in her Ford Focus.  Police say after questioning the children and Rios' family, they have a pretty good idea of what went down.

Children Beg To Save Their Mother's Life
Police believe that around 8:15 p.m. that night,  Rios showed up at the house and forced his way in through the front door. Cops think he then ordered the children outside and took their mother, Lorena, and her friend, Javier, into the bedroom. Moments later, the children told police they heard their mother's screams for help and ran back into the house. Police say the children opened the bedroom door and saw their mother bleeding on the floor. Javier was screaming at Rios to stop. Cops say the children even begged their father to stop shooting her, but instead he turned the gun on Javier and shot him multiple times in front of them. Police say Rios then drove to his sister's in Kannapolis, dropped the kids off, and fled.

Police: A Killer On The Run
Kannapolis Police found the Ford Focus abandoned in a K-Mart parking lot in Charlotte. Police believe that Rios could still be in the North Carolina area, but he also has relatives in Mexico. In the past he has worked in construction, hanging drywall. Police say he doesn't have a lengthy record, but need your help to find him.
