Cops: Son Gunned Down In Front Of His Own Mother |
|
| |
Cathy Clifton Armstrong cannot get the image of her son, John Clifton Jr., being murdered out of her head.
"I don't know how to describe the feeling of watching your child dying right in front of you," she said.
She now lives in fear every day, and she prays that her son's killers will soon be brought to justice.
Police say that on September 1, 2007, at around 5:45 p.m. John was walking across his mother's front yard in Rockledge, Fla. when at least four men approached him.
Cathy says she was in her home and heard people arguing outside. "I went to the window and saw people fighting," she said, "and then I realized that one of them was my son."
Cathy says she ran to the door to see what was going on.
"I opened the door," she said, "and I saw them shoot my son."
What she saw will stay with her forever.
"I saw them beating on my son, and then they held his arms and legs while a man walked up, placed a gun to my son's chest and pulled the trigger," she said.
She says she made an attempt to run after the men, but they took off in a car.
More than a year later, John's murder remains unsolved; police describe the suspects as four black males who drove off in a white Impala.
Police say they have a good idea of who is responsible for John's murder, but they need people to come forward with information that can help further the case. |

A Son Taken Away, A Son Left Behind |
|
| |
John Clifton grew up in Rockledge, Fla. and was the third of four children. He left behind two brothers and a sister.
Most tragically, John left behind a 4-year-old son, who his family says misses him dearly.
John's mother, Cathy, is devastated. That day in 2007, she not only has lost her son, but she says she essentially lost her own life, as well.
The murder happened right in front of the home Cathy had lived in for more than 30 years. She ran a successful daycare business out of her home, but since the shooting, she has had to shut down the business, which was her livelihood.
Cathy is now struggling to make ends meet, but she still works hard every day to increase the reward offered for the tip that leads authorities to her son's killer.
She says she cannot live in her home because of her fear of becoming a victim herself. She has spent the last year living with family and friends, and her only wish is to bring her son's killers to justice.
