Case Story |

Accused Md. Rapist On The Run |
|
| |
Cops in Carroll County, Md. are looking for an accused rapist who hit the road after warrants were issued for his arrest.
On September 23, 2008, cops say 25-year-old Vincente Gomora Bastida showed up at the home of one of his female relatives in Westminster, Md. for a visit. Cops say after Bastida had downed a few drinks, the conversation took an unexpected, unsolicited, and unwanted turn.
According to police, Bastida began making sexual advances toward the woman, and when she refused, cops say he forced himself on her. Police say Bastida's victim attempted to fight back, but Bastida raped her before fleeing in his red Jeep Cherokee.
The following day, cops discovered Bastida's Jeep abandoned in Westminster -- but Bastida was nowhere to be found. Cops say he could still be in the Westminster area -- but he may also be heading to his native Mexico.
Cops say Bastida is no stranger to the law. According to police, Bastida has been arrested in the past for driving under the influence of alcohol. They say he already had a warrant on file in Carroll County for failing to appear in court following that arrest. |
