Prosecutors:
Juvenile Starks To Be Charged As An Adult |

Columbus, Ohio police say they had Brandon Lamont Starks housed at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center in June 2008, being held there until prosecutors could charge him for a very adult crime -- stealing a police car.
Detectives say that a police officer was working security at the Asian Festival in Columbus on Memorial Day weekend when his undercover, unmarked SUV was stolen from the festival grounds.
Investigators say that it didn't take them long to track down the man responsible because they found the SUV parked in front of Starks' home.
Because Starks was just 17, authorities arrested and housed him in the juvenile system, but prosecutors say they were in the midst of filing paperwork with the court which would charge Starks as an adult for burglary, carrying a concealed weapon, criminal trespassing, narcotics, receiving stolen property and tampering with evidence when he allegedly escaped from police custody. |

On June 20, 2008, 17-year-old inmate Brandon Starks had a dental appointment slated with a Cleveland Avenue dentist in Columbus. A court security officer escorted Starks and drove to the appointment.
Police say the officer did everything right, including circling the building's lot before parking and taking the juvenile detainee -- dressed in an orange jumpsuit and in a belly chain with wrist and ankle shackles -- to the appointment.
But, detectives say, as the man removed Starks from the transport vehicle, two armed men approached. Cops say one had mace and the other had a handgun. They subdued the guard, holding the gun to his head, and stole his keys to the vehicle and handcuffs.
The guard told police that after they freed Starks, the men fled in a blue van driven by a third assailant. |

Others Arrested, But Starks Still Sought |

Police have since arrested the three men they believe are responsible for the brazen and bold escape. They've also collared Starks' mother.
Columbus authorities have charged all four individuals with aiding Starks' escape, but Starks is still on the run.
Starks was last seen in that orange jumpsuit. Cops say he has strong ties to the west side of Columbus, his hometown. He may also flee north to Akron or west to Cincinnati.
Don't be fooled by his young age: cops say Starks should be considered armed and dangerous, and say his bold crimes belie his youth. |
