  Case Story
Police Investigate Nightclub Fight, Murder In Maryland
On June 26, 2004, Prince George's County, Md. police were dispatched to FedEx Way in Landover, Md. There, officers found a bullet-riddled car and a man, later identified as Kenneth Ragland, shot to death inside. Cops say around 3:00 a.m., Ragland and some friends were returning from a night out on the town. As Ragland made his way down Central Ave., cops believe occupants in another car were tailing his burgundy Crown Victoria. Seconds later, as the car pulled up beside a surprised Ragland and his friends, someone in the vehicle opened fire. Witnesses reported the suspect vehicle as a white Crown Vic. Cops say a green Dodge Caravan was also seen in the area where the shooting occurred. Police aren't sure whether the driver of the Dodge Caravan was a witness or involved in the shooting.

Md. Engineering Student Gunned Down In Hail of Bullets
Investigators say on June 26, 2004, after rehearsing with The Topside Band, 20-year-old engineering student Kenneth Ragland, decided to hit the town with four of his friends. So after finishing band practice at 4:30 p.m., Ragland and his friends started making the rounds. Police say the group ended their night at the Mad Chef Cafe. Now out of business, cops say the Mad Chef Cafe was a catering company by day and a nightclub by night. The site drew a hip, young crowd with an electric edge, and  groups flooded the venue on the weekends. Cops say Ragland and his friends arrived at the club around midnight and partied until about 2:30 a.m. Shortly before 3:00 a.m., investigators say a fist-fight broke out, which spilled out into the club's parking lot. As partygoers scrambled to escape the mêlée, groups of people began piling into cars and tearing out of the parking lot. It was then that cops say Ragland and his friends made their way down Central Ave. But cops say as Ragland slowed to a stop, a vehicle pulled up next to his. Seconds later, the car was sprayed with bullets and Ragland was hit. The 20-year-old, bleeding, fell over into the passenger seat and into the lap of a terrified friend. Police were never able to determine if Ragland had been the shooter's intended victim or if the the brawl at the cafe was the motive in his attack. Authorities continue to follow up on leads in Ragland's case and are determined to bring justice to the Ragland family.
