  Case Story
Philly Cops Mourn One Of Their Own After Fatal Bank Robbery
Philadelphia police launched a full-scale search for 33-year-old Eric Floyd, a fugitive charged in connection with the murder of 39-year-old Philadelphia Police Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski, after a bank robbery there, and he mananged to outrun the long arm of the law for nearly six days before he was apprehended late in the evening of May 7, 2008. Cops say they've identified Floyd as one of three men involved in the shooting death of  Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski. Cops say Sgt. Liczbinski confronted the suspects after responding to a bank robbery inside a Philadelphia grocery store on May 3, 2008. Cops say the suspects opened fire using a Chinese-made SKS assault rifle. Police called the shooting an execution, saying Sgt. Liczbinski didn't have a chance. Police began searching for Floyd when he escaped from a halfway house in Reading before the robbery and murder, but he had disappeared only to emerge at the scene of the bank robbery on Saturday.

The Other Suspects In Sgt. Liczbinski's Murder
After the murder, K-9 cops tracked down 33-year-old Howard Cain, a man who lived at the same address as Floyd on Clearfield Street. Cain -- a convict and the man believed to be responsible for firing the fatal shots -- was himself shot and killed during the encounter with police. Police recovered a Chrysler Town and Country van allegedly used in the robbery and murder. Inside the van, police found the SKS assault rifle, other guns, Muslim clothing apparently used in the robbery as disguises, and thousands of dollars. Police say the van was reported missing shortly after the robbery by 38-year-old Levon Warner, but after checking the facts, cops say they now believe Warner is the third suspect. He has been arrested and charged with murder, robbery, and conspiracy. Police have also confirmed that another man, Mitchell Aaron Cain, the uncle of dead suspect Howard Cain, has been charged with carjacking the getaway vehicle. Cops say the night before Officer Liczbinski was murdered, Mitchell Cain and the other accused killers, carjacked the vehicle at the intersection of Broad and Allegheny.

Manhunt For Floyd Moves To N.J.
Sightings placing Floyd jumping off of a N.J. transit train at the Newark Liberty Airport train station on May 5, 2008 had Garden State law enforcement agencies scrambling to find the accused cop killer. But cops say remained confident that Floyd had not left Philadelphia, and on May 7, 2008, their vigilance paid off: Floyd was apprehended at a girlfriend's house, sleeping, after cops got a call from someone who knew where Floyd was staying.
