Mom's Former Boyfriend Implicated In Teen's Disappearance |

Cops say Gerarlene Nicole Shepard disappeared from Barboursville, W.Va. on April 23, 2008, and friends and family are desperate to get her back. Cops say Gerarlene, who goes by her middle name Nicole, is believed to have recently experienced some difficulties at school which police believe might explain her flight from home.
Cops soon discovered Nicole wasn't the only one who'd done a vanishing act. Cops say on the day Nicole went missing, witnesses reported seeing her getting into the passenger seat of a metallic blue, 1988 Chevy Camero with a man they later identified as Mark Anthony Marcum. |

Cops say Mark Anthony Marcum is no stranger to Nicole. They say Marcum dated Nicole's mother for ten years, practically raising Nicole and her sibling.
At some point during Marcum's ten year relationship with Nicole's mom, he moved the entire family to Barboursville, W.Va. There the couple and the children lived until cops say the pair separated, a little more than a year ago.
While Marcum assumed the role of father to his ex-girlfriend's two children, even paying child support though he is not legally obligated to do so, police have been unable to definitively determine Marcum's relationship to the 16-year-old girl.
Cops say Marcum is originally from Williamson, W.Va. and that's where they discovered his abandoned truck after his abrupt disappearance. Inside the truck, authorities found camping equipment.
Police say Marcum is an outdoorsman and an avid camper, and believe he and Nicole could be headed to the Jenny Wiley State Resort Park near Prestonsburg, Ky. There, police say Marcum and Nicole could be planning to blend in with other campers in an attempt to evade authorities.
The two were most recently spotted in Williamson, W.Va. where Marcum has relatives. Police believe Marcum and Nicole may be traveling back and forth between Williamson, W.Va. and Pikeville, Ky.
Police are anxious to locate Nicole and return the young girl to her distraught mother. And Nicole's mother isn't the only one fraught with anxiety; police say their anxiety level was heightened when cops learned that 33-year-old Marcum is no stranger to the authorities.
According to police, he is currently wanted on felony burglary and misdemeanor domestic battery charges. Cops say if Marcum is traveling with Nicole, he is harboring a runaway and could face additional charges.
Police say Nicole was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and a black hoodie with skulls on it. She may have dark blond or auburn hair and could be wearing her hair pulled back into a ponytail. Nicole takes medication and may seek out medical attention.
Authorities describe Marcum as a white male, 5'11" tall, approximately 240 lbs. He has blue eyes and brown hair in what is described as a buzz cut hairstyle. He has a scar along his hairline and walks with a limp.
Cops say Marcum may be in possession of a handgun. |
