Fugitive Charged With Assault, Rape Of 61-Year-Old Retiree |

Police tell AMW that what started out as an armed robbery attempt soon escalated into something much more heinous in the early morning hours of Aug. 30, 2007.
Just after midnight, cops say Michael Bresnahan broke into the home of an elderly woman, who had just tucked herself into bed. Authorities believe Bresnahan gained access to the Winchendon, Mass. residence by slicing the screen door open with a knife. The unsuspecting homeowner -- a 61-year-old retired teacher -- was fast asleep in her bed.
That's when cops say Bresnahan startled the single, divorced mom from her sleep and jammed his knife against her throat. Bresnahan allegedly told his victim that he only wanted money, but after two hours of torment, it appeared he wanted more.
Cops tell us that Bresnahan held his victim against her will and assaulted her for hours. When he let go, cops say Bresnahan left the home empty-handed. It's obvious proof, the victim's family believes, that he wasn't in it for the money.
Since his disappearance, authorities have tracked Bresnahan across the country. They received information that he recently went to visit his two children and his ex-wife in California. When they went to grab him, Bresnahan left and hasn't been back to see his family since.
Initially, authorities believed that Bresnahan may have run off to Florida, New Hampshire, or he could come back to visit California.
When AMW viewers saw Michael Bresnahan's face on America's Most Wanted, tips began pouring into the AMW Crime Center. Tipsters told investigators on the case that he may have changed his appearance. |

Cops Say Fugitive Plans To Hike Pacific Crest Trail |

Cops say Michael Bresnahan has it all figured out -- get to California, get to Oregon, then disappear into the wilderness of Alaska.
Cops say Bresnahan could be trying to make his way to the Pacific Crest Trail -- a trail that runs from Mexico straight to Canada.
But midway through his plan an alert tipster called AMW, and reported they saw Bresnahan buying camping gear at a Wal-Mart in Springfield, Ore. By the time Springfield Police arrived, Bresnahan had hit the road again.
Surveillance pictures from Wal-Mart show Bresnahan's purchase includes a pair of binoculars, noodles, and Sterno to heat up food -- items he might be using to survive on his own, including hiking in the wilderness of the Pacific Crest Trail.
As cops canvassed the area around the Wal-Mart, more tips poured into our hotline.
AMW has now learned that Bresnahan was last seen hitchhiking north along the Springfield portion of Interstate I-5 and could be hitching rides with truckers. |

After almost a year on the lam, cops say Massachusetts fugitive Michael Bresnahan could be out of options and near the end of his fugitive run.
"He looks weary and gaunt, and his face is much skinnier than his wanted poster people are telling me," says Deputy U.S. Marshal Ross Mueske.
Bresnahan is traveling with no identification and hitchhiking east along Oregon Route 126.
He could be missing a front tooth and was last spotted near a Safeway grocery story and a McDonald's restaurant in the eastern part of Bend, Ore. |
