  Case Story
Cops Had Few Leads On Garza's Whereabouts
Since February 5, 2008, no one had heard from Middlebury College student Nicholas Garza; no phone calls, bank activity, or signs of foul play. "Everything is wide open," Middlebury, Vt. police officer Jason Covey told AMW at the time. "We can't rule out any possibilities at this point." Authorities had few clues on Garza's whereabouts. They knew that after leaving his buddies' dorm room that night, Garza phoned a friend at 11:06 p.m., but that call was never answered.  Garza's cell phone was never used again. Cops said it appeared that Garza's disappearance wasn't planned because he left behind his only winter jacket, his iPod, and his laptop. On May 27, 2008, they found Nick's body in a local river.

Cops: Garza Was A Good Student
Friends say that Garza was a good student, and when he didn't show up for class after winter break ended, they began to worry. After five days, a full search effort was launched and the police got involved, searching Garza's dorm room and seizing his laptop.  Leafing though Garza's e-mail and talking with family members, cops told AMW that they had very few clues about Nick's disappearance. "Garza was a good student who is close with his family and doing well by all accounts," Officer Covey said.
