Detectives Say Fake Soldier Escapes |

Marshals in Louisville, Kentucky say that David Wheatley likes to pretend he is a cop or a U.S. Marine. But, they say he's neither and the closest he's come to being a cop is the many times he's been arrested by them.
Investigators say that Wheatley's favorite story is that he is a captain in the Marine Corps and has served in several deployments to the Middle East. But, he also allegedly tells people that he is a government agent and marshals say that he carries a law enforcement badge and a laminated card that says "Do not arrest or detain at this time, I am an agent of the government" to bolster his claims.
Marshals say all those stories are fake and the one truth is this: Wheatley is a child rapist on the run who escaped police custody in 2003. |

Louisville-area law enforcement say that Wheatley has been on their radar since 1996.
In May of that year, Wheatley was charged with rape, sex abuse, sodomy and burglary. In July 2002, Wheatley popped back up on the radar for carrying a concealed deadly weapon. In October of 2003, more concealed weapons charges and more sex abuse accusations.
Wheatley was in the custody of the Jefferson County Corrections Department when he escaped in December of 2003. He hasn't been seen since, but he's still on the law enforcement radar.
In July 2006, Louisville Metro Police received a call from an alleged victim of Wheatley's. The little girl, who is one of Wheatley's family members, was allegedly raped by David Wheatley from 1999 through 2002 when she was just 7 years old until she was only 10 years old. Cops say that the rapes got progressively more violent as the girl got older.
In September of 2006, a Jefferson County, Kentucky Grand Jury indicted Wheatley on the sex crimes against the young girl.
The Marshals have joined the hunt and on top of the initial escape charges, Wheatley faces rape, sex abuse, sodomy and attempted rape charges. |

Cops: Wheatley Never Served |

According to cops, David Wheatley loves portraying himself as a war hero. He dresses up in Marine uniforms and seems to know a lot about the Corps.
Because of this, Marshals say he often engenders trust with people, making them believe that he has served his country patriotically. Oftentimes, deputies say that Wheatley tells people that he is wanted by U.S. intelligence agencies for information he came across in his deployments to Iraq.
But, cops say that is all a far-fetched lie and the only reason they are looking for him is because he raped a child and escaped police custody.
