Police Say Chad Shores Is One Bad Boyfriend |
|
| |
After a few months of dating Chad Shores, his girlfriend had had enough of his physical abuse and threats. She told AMW that not only did Shores threaten to kill her, he threatened to kill her cat. When she dumped him, he still managed to harass her, so she filed restraining order after restraining order, but to no avail.
On the evening of August 19, 2003, cops say Shores crossed the line when he laid in wait for his ex-girlfriend to return from work. Police say when she arrived, Shores forced himself into the house, shoved her into her bedroom, threw her down by her hair, and yelled "I'm going to kill you if you try to leave!"
She fought back, slapping Shores in the mouth, before cops say he straddled her. She kneed him in the crotch area and told him he'd end up in jail. She says that Shores responded, "They'll only keep me there for so long, and then I'll come back and kill you!"
The abuse and threats went on for hours until a neighbor, riding by on his bike, heard Shores yelling that he was going to slit her throat. The neighbor grabbed a shovel and a trash can lid and entered the home in hopes of scaring off the attacker. Shores fled out the back door in nothing but his boxer-briefs and the neighbor chased after him for a few blocks but lost him. Police later learned that Shores had simply ducked inside a trash can until the coast was clear.
Later that morning, the female victim received a phone call from Shores: he wanted his clothes back. She immediately called police and they set up a sting operation to nab Shores when he retrieved his clothes. Shores' bruised ex-girlfriend dropped off a brown bag containing his clothes near a newspaper stand in Eugene, Ore. After a few hours, he showed his face and cops moved in, but Shores had other plans. |

A Fiery Escape, And A Tropical Getaway? |
|
| |
Chad Shores scaled a fence and ran to take cover in a nearby forest, but cops were right on his tail. He tried to seek refuge in a dense thicket of blackberry bushes. The bushes were a local menace with thorns nearly an inch long, but police extracted Shores from the thatch after a struggle that bloodied authorities and fugitive alike.
Shores was ultimately charged with attempted rape and kidnapping, but plea-bargained which earned him a four-year prison sentence.
However, during the Bland Mountain Fire, prisoners were used to fight the massive 10,000-acre blaze. During his work-release program, Shores made his escape in the confusion of the conflagration and escaped under the cover of darkness.
Cops say there was no sign of the fugitive until February 2008, when a sighting of Shores in Kahului on the island of Maui was reported. Police believe that he was working in the island's sugar industry as a day laborer. |
