  Case Story
Bank Robbery Suspect Sought In Credit Union Heists
Hampton, Va. Police have now joined Montgomery, Fairfax, and the Stafford County Sheriff's Office in their search for a suspect who has robbed five Naval Federal Credit Unions. Police say the first bank robbery took place on Sept. 1, 2007 at the Naval Federal Credit Union on Middlebrook Road in Germantown, Md. According to police, the man approached a teller and demanded money using a note. Investigators say he then placed the money in a bag he brought with him and fled on foot. Witnesses also noted that the man appeared to be wearing a straight black wig. Cops say the second robbery took place on Oct. 1, 2007 at the Navy Federal Credit Union on Worth Ave., in Stafford, Va. In that incident, Stafford County Sheriff officers say the suspect displayed a note to the teller demanding money, at one point, whispering to the teller to hurry up. The suspect did not appear to be wearing a wig in this incident as in the previous one which tells police he is getting more comfortable with his crimes and he isn't trying hard to hide his identity. In the third heist on Dec. 11, 2007, police say the suspect returned to the Navy Federal Credit Union in Md. He casually walked in and stepped up to the counter, leaned in close to the teller and whispered for her to hand over the money. As the teller gathered the money, the suspect produced a dark-colored bag and began to fill it up as the teller handed him the cash. The fourth bank robbery occurred in Fairfax County on Jan. 11, 2008 at the Navy Federal Credit Union on Brandon Avenue in Springfield, Va. The suspect was wearing a black knit cap, sunglasses, a green jacket, black gloves and possibly blue jeans. The latest robbery on Feb. 19, 2008 occurred in Hampton, Va. where video surveillance shows the suspect waiting patiently in line, and according to witnesses was seen playing peek-a-boo with a small child. Video shows the suspect walking up to a teller and demanding cash. But this time, cops say, the bandit made a shrouded threat, whispering to the teller "someone's watching you." The robber was last seen wearing a red and black knit cap, a dark-colored jacket, gray baggy "Roca Wear" sweatpants, light-brown work boots and large, dark sunglasses. He appeared to be unshaven. Authorities say he may have fled in a newer model SUV.

  The Civilized Bank Robber
Police say the suspect appears to be quite familiar with the Navy Federal Credit Unions and their procedures. This leads investigators to believe the suspect may be a former bank employee, military officer, or have some connection to the bank through relatives or friends. Investigators say the suspect leaves no fingerprints, never threatens violence and according to witnesses, is polite. In some surveillance footage, he can actually be seen holding the door open for patrons, cops say. The suspect is also pleasant and appears relaxed and friendly as he holds up the banks. According to the police, each robbery occurred during the morning hours and after demanding money the soft-spoken bank robber casually walks out of the building, making sure not to draw any attention to himself.

Unscripted, Inexperienced And Headed For Jail
Cops say despite knocking over five banks in six months, the suspect appears to be unscripted and unorganized, except for the bag he brings with him in which to stash the money he steals. In one robbery attempt, police say the suspect entered a building only to realize it was not the bank. A bank employee who observed the confused man guided him to the right entrance. Police describe the suspect as a light-skinned black or Hispanic male, between 5'5" and 5'8", weighing 155 lbs. At one of the credit union robberies, police say the suspect was described as having a mustache and goatee.
