Maryland State Police Hunt for Accused Rapist |
|
| |
Maryland State Police are searching for Jacob Corey Gordon, 28, who they say brutally raped a woman seven years ago.
Cops say that on the night of October 19, 2001, Gordon and his friend Thomas Heddinger met the young woman while all three were attending a concert in Washington, D.C.
There, police say Gordon and Heddinger offered to take the young woman home after she became ill. Instead, authorities say, Gordon and Heddinger drove her to a wooded, remote location and sexually assaulted her for nearly three hours before dumping her in a field.
Cops say the teenage girl stumbled through the field, and eventually wandered to a nearby women's correctional facility, where correctional officers called police. The girl -- bruised, beaten and dazed from the attack -- was still able to describe her attackers and the van in which she was held. |

Police Match Suspects DNA |
|
| |
Five years passed before cops received a solid lead in the case. In June 2006, police received a phone call that revived the entire investigation.
A technician conducting a routine search of the Maryland State Police Crime Lab database made an astonishing discovery: DNA entered from the 2001 case came back with a match.
According to the technician, the DNA sample was a match to Thomas Howell Heddinger, who police say was already locked up in a Maryland jail.
In February 2007, cops officially charged Heddinger with first-degree rape. Six months later, police received a lead on a second suspect.
According to authorities, an informant reported having conversations with Jacob Gordon in which he admitted to sexual intercourse with the victim. Gordon, however, claimed the sex was consensual.
Police conducted a photo line-up, and the victim positively identified Gordon as one of her attackers. Cops were also able to confirm that Gordon owned a 1987 Ford Van at the time of the attack, which the victim had previously described.
A month later, police served a search warrant, collecting Gordon's DNA. When the results came back, police confirmed that Jacob Gordon was the second assailant. Unfortunately by that time, Gordon had disappeared. |
