  Case Story
Two Georgia Officers Gunned Down While On Security Patrol
Police in DeKalb County, Ga. are on a manhunt for one or more men seen running after two off-duty officers were shot and killed early Wednesday, January 16, 2008.  Police chief Terrell Bolton says the officers were working security detail at the Glenwood Gardens apartment complex in Decatur to supplement their income, something many officers do. Police say the officers were investigating a suspicious persons call, and when the two got out of the car, shots rang out.  One officer was pronounced dead on the scene, the other was pronounced dead later at an Atlanta hospital.  The officers were later identified as 34-year-old Eric Barker, a four-year veteran of the force, and 26-year-old Ricky Bryant, Jr., a two-year veteran of the force.  Both men were married with four children each. >>Local Coverage: MyFoxAtlanta

At Least Two Men Running, The Only Clue
The chief says it looks like the shooting was an ambush, and the officers had no chance to return fire.  Witnesses reported seeing at least two black men running from the scene around 12:40 a.m., and police used dogs and a helicopter to search for the men.  The department is asking every available officer to help hunt for any clues or evidence about the shooting, from cadets and rookies, to the SWAT team, to the fugitive squads. Since the men fled on foot, there is no vehicle description police have to go by, the only description being that there were at least two men running, and that they were both black.
