Sleepy Upstart Suburb Rocked By Tragedy |
|
| |
Sean Dickus seemed to be living the American Dream. He had a great job, a new home and a young family he worked hard to provide for.
Not only was Sean an ex-Marine, he was a church-goer with a strong Christian faith who worked to further his education.
Sean was so determined to earn a Bachelor's degree that he coordinated his schedule with that of his wife, Chynna, so the pair could take coinciding night courses at Indiana Wesleyan University. She was studying accounting, and he was studying business administration.
Night classes became routine for the Dickuses, and July 24, 2006 was to be no different.
Sean worked mere minutes away from his family's new home in the sleepy, upstart Branigin Creek subdivision. On his lunch break, Sean drove home to spend part of the afternoon with Chynna and his 10-year-old son, Blake. By all accounts, the family had a great time together.
Sean returned to work around 1:45 p.m., and remained there until the end of his shift at 5 p.m.
In the meantime, Sean's ex-wife, and Blake's mother, Christina, had plans to take Blake to the movies that evening while Sean and Chynna were at school together. Christina's mother was intending to pick Blake up, but she was unable to get in touch with either of them throughout the afternoon.
As the day grew longer, calls to Blake and Chynna went unanswered, and Christina grew more worried, she finally took it upon herself to drive to Sean's house and find out why.
When she pulled into the neighborhood and saw the emergency vehicles lining the street, she knew that her life would never be the same. |

The American Dream Becomes The Ultimate Nightmare |
|
| |
Sean, planning to accompany Chynna to school after a hard day's work, arrived home just after 5 p.m. to grab his books when he walked right into the most grisly and horrifying scene he had ever laid eyes upon.
His 10-year-old son, Blake, was lying in a pool of blood -- he'd been stabbed and brutally beaten to death. Sean immediately called 9-1-1.
Moments later, while still on the phone with the dispatcher, he found the body of his wife, Chynna, lying still and lifeless; she, too, had been viciously stabbed.
Within minutes, officers arrived on scene, followed shortly thereafter by numerous investigators, determined to find Blake and Chynna's killers. But they would never know just how long that would ultimately take.
It was around that time that Blake's mother, Christina , arrived at the scene, and cops tell us that she is as deeply affected by this tragedy today as she was on that fateful summer evening.
Blake's old bedroom in her home looks exactly the same way he had left it a week earlier, the last time he stayed there.
Christina hasn't touched a thing in it -- and police tell us she will not touch anything in it until the murderer or murderers have been identified and brought to justice.
In the time since the murders that tore his life apart, Sean has left his job and moved to another town. Police tell us he wanted to try to put the tragedy behind him as best he could and pursue a dream he once had -- to open a pizza shop.
It was a dream that he often talked with Blake about, and he had hoped that Blake would be around to enjoy when the dream came to fruition. But that day would never come. |

Could Nearby Burglaries Be Key To Cracking The Case? |
|
| |
Detective Scott Carter of the Franklin Police Department tells us that in the months leading up to the slayings, there were numerous burglaries in and around that very neighborhood.
As a matter of fact, a house five doors down from the Dickus residence had been broken into that very same afternoon.
Cops at the murder scene were immediately notified, and while the burglarized house was searched, it yielded few clues.
In the time that has passed since that tragic day, the burglaries have come to a virtual halt, giving cops few other leads to follow up on.
After Exhausting All Resources, Cops Turn To Public
Since July 2006, the enormity of the case has overtaken the Franklin Police Department's investigations unit. Years later, they still have no solid leads and have not been able to precisely determine that tragic day's course of events.
Lt. Chris Tennell tells us that to this day, it's still not known whether Blake or Chynna was killed first, nor has any clear motive been established. But cops tell AMW that Blake bravely and vehemently tried to escape the house before, they believe, his killer ultimately bludgeoned him to death.
There are many unknown aspects of this tragic case, and cops hope that with America's help, the gaps can be closed.
Lt. Tennell tells us that this is the biggest case to hit Franklin in more than a decade. With each and every day that passes, the weight of this case grows heavier on the family, friends and law enforcement officials appointed to seek justice for Blake and Chynna.
Regardless, investigators are in it for the long haul and are steadfastly determined to get to the bottom of this most heinous tragedy.
