  Case Story
  Who Shot Officer Wood?
Just after midnight on October 23, 2006, 14-year police veteran Officer Thomas Wood was just about to get off of work at the Maywood, Ill. Police Department. The K-9 officer was driving through town in his police-issued SUV when a bullet-riddled vehicle caught his attention.  Officer Wood pulled in behind to run the car's license plates through his police database.   Unfortunately, it was the last stop Officer Wood would ever make. Tom Wood had his window rolled down and was looking at his computer, typing in information about the parked car when someone shot him and left him to die. Emergency crews arrived quickly and took him to the hospital, but they were too late.  Officer Wood was pronounced dead 45 minutes later.

Why Was The Window Rolled Down?
Officer Wood's canine partner, Daro, was in the back of the truck at the time of the shooting, but he was unharmed.  Investigators don't know why Tom's window was rolled down.  It could have been because Officer Wood was trying to get Daro some air on that brisk fall evening.  Or, they say, Officer Wood could have been having a casual conversation with someone on the street.  Whatever the case, the window was down and the killer used that fact to shoot him at point-blank range.

  Does Anyone Know Anything?
Few leads have surfaced in the case. The crime itself took place in the midst of suspected gang territory, and no one is talking. Officer Tom Wood leaves behind five children. His death was the first line-of-duty death in Maywood Police history. No witnesses have come forward to police and there is little evidence to go on.  With your help, hopefully the Maywood Police Department and the FBI can bring Officer Wood's killer to justice.
