  Case Story
  Birthday Gone Wrong
On November 11, 1972, Nancy Pennington went out on the town to celebrate her 15th birthday.  Nancy was a typical Chicagoland high school student and she told her mother that she would be back late because she was going to a party with friends to celebrate.  It was the last time her mother would see Nancy alive. Near the alleyway behind 2037 North Winchester in Chicago's West Town, a witness awoke in the middle of the night to the loud thump of something heavy against the outside of his wall.  He got out of bed and looked out the window, only to see a young girl -- Nancy Pennington -- being brutally beaten.  The witness told cops that the attacker was holding onto the top of some trash cans and jumping on her head.  The resident hurried outside and down the gangway to the gate leading towards the alley and saw the unknown killer kicking Nancy repeatedly.

  Help Came Too Late
As soon as he saw the witness, cops say the killer shielded his face with his arm and ran down the street to his blue, 1963-1964 Chevrolet.  The vehicle was light on the top and dark on the bottom.  The witness hurried to help Nancy but as he did, her attacker backed the car towards them.  Thinking that he would be hit or attacked, the eyewitness ran back towards his home.  The witness told police that as he fled, the killer stopped six feet away from the now-unconscious girl.  Then, according to the witness the attacker got out of the car, picked something up off the ground and drove off.

35 Years Of Waiting For Justice
Cops were called to the scene and summoned an ambulance. The police brought Nancy's grief-stricken mother, Delores Pennington, to the hospital to identify her nearly unrecognizable daughter. Nancy hung on for three days at the hospital, but eventually succumbed to her injuries. Cops are still trying to piece together what happened to Nancy.  They say they do not know what happened in the evening leading up to her attack.  Eyewitnesses and forensics indicate that the unknown killer is a white male with light-brown hair, between 5'10''  and 5'11" tall, and would now be between the ages of 48 and 50. Cops think that Nancy may have known her attacker. The police are currently searching for three witnesses believed to have information concerning this case.
