My Story By Arlene Mato |
|
| |
My name is Arlene Mato and on June 26, 2007, my brother-in-law Wayne W. Fehrm was murdered in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was married to my sister, Deborah Fehrm. He was killed on her 55th birthday. At 5:30 a.m. she was notified by Portsmouth Police Dept Detective M.A. Luck that Wayne was shot.
Wayne Fehrm, a truck driver, was preparing a load to take to Washington D.C. at the business he owned on the corner of Brighton and Chesnut Street. Police state that at around 1:30 - 2:00 a.m. he had driven out of the warehouse and locked the gate. When he came around the truck, he may have surprised a person or persons. He was shot on the left side of his chest. A witness saw someone running away from the scene.
I came from a family of three girls, so Wayne was a brother to me. There was no "in-law" attached with that. Wayne was a Deacon and youth minister at the Churchland Baptist church. He loved going to church. He was well liked by church members and his neighbors. We just found out that he was helping homeless people in the area where his company was. He was an extraordinary human being and for him to taken away from us in this manner is extremely heartbreaking and unforgivable. The image I will never forget was to see my sister receive his rolled up American flag and then hugging the casket, crying. My two nephews and my niece (Wayne's children) were crying too. Those memories will forever stay in my mind. God did receive an angel that day. I truly believe that.
A small reward is being offered for information involving the murder of Wayne Fehrm, and his family is looking to raise more. If you think you have information regarding this case, contact the Portsmouth Police Dept. at 757-393-8536.
This case needs to be out there on to keep the story alive and to hopefully get the person or persons arrested and convicted. Help bring them to justice so we can have some kind of closure. |
