Cops: Serial Killer Stalks Island Women |
|
| |
Kauai police are not overlooking the similarities in the murders of two Caucasian women and the attempted murder of a third woman. In every case, the victim was between 5' and 5'2". Each woman weighed about 100 pounds. The women were in their late thirties to mid-forties. All the victims were stabbed. Interestingly, all the victims lived similar Bohemian lifestyles near the beach. Cops believe the same person is responsible for all three incidents.
Family members of 38-year-old Lisa Bissell say the Michigan native had a carefree, loving spirit and a sparkling zest for life. Friends say Lisa had a great sense of humor and an easy laugh which complemented her petite, blue-eyed, blond stature. She was one of four daughters and moved to Hawaii to live closer to her father. Lisa instantly fell in love with Kauai's picturesque scenery. She found her housing with elderly men whom she cared for. Described as smart and sensitive, Lisa channeled her passion for life by writing poetry.
However, after nearly eight years of living the Hawaiian life, on April 7, 2000, her naked body was found on a sugar cane road leading to the Polihale State Park, a secluded area that is heavily utilized by tourists heading to the beach for majestic scenic views of the Na Pali Coast. Her clothes were found three miles away, near Waimea landing, a fishing area. Police say Lisa was stabbed to death. The autopsy concluded that Lisa's wounds were not life-threatening, but that since she was untreated, she ultimately bled to death. |

Another Gruesome Discovery |
|
| |
Forty-three-year-old New York native Daryn Singer was an artist who specialized in making stained glass and jewelry from sea shells she found. Daryn's family and friends describe her as a beautiful person and a great athlete. A Maui resident, Kauai was Daryn's favorite Hawaiian island; she was attracted by the towering waves she surfed and sweet-scented ocean air.
In August 2000, Daryn was vacationing on Kauai, making her way around the island by hitch-hiking. Daryn's family says she was on her final hiking expedition prior to returning to the contiguous states to care for her ailing grandmother in Florida. But Daryn never made it home.
On August 30, Daryn's partially-clothed body was found near Pakala Point Beach, near Waimea Falls. Her lifeless body was left near foliage at the campsite she made. Police say she had been severely beaten and stabbed. She was found near her belongings, including a personal diary, clothing, handmade jewelry and a surfboard. |

Third Victim Fights Off Her Attacker |
|
| |
Police say the third victim was a caretaker at a private, secluded beach house in Kekaha. According to police, on May 23, 2000, the victim was stabbed in the stomach and suffered a broken arm. Her injuries were sustained as she bravely fought off a man who attempted to rape her as she was tending to the property. Severely wounded with injuries similar to those sustained by Lisa, police say the victim was left to die. Miraculously, she survived. Fighting for life, she courageously crawled to the front of the house and up stairs so that she could call for help.
Kauai police believe that the fatal and near fatal encounters are the work of the same assailant. Cops are not ignoring the fact that the victims fit the same profile and resemble each other. Also, the victims were possibly sexually assaulted and in each case, a sharp object was used. Moreover, all the incidents occurred within a five mile radius and cops say the victims' bodies were positioned by the perpetrator.
Kauai police need your help in identifying the suspect in each of these cases. If you know anything about the murders of Lisa Bissell or Daryn Singer, or the attempted murder at Kekaha, please call 1-800-CRIME-TV or send us your tip from this website. You can remain anonymous.
