Murder Motivated By Robbery |
|
| |
Late into the evening of July 29, 2007, Ruben Whittington had just finished up his weekly payroll for his home repair franchise, Mr. Handyman, when cops say he called his wife to say he was on his way home. Moments later, Ruben pulled his car over after realizing he had a flat tire and called AAA for help. Detectives say he had already jacked up the back of car and gotten his tool box out before he was confronted by someone intending to rob him.
Authorites say about six or seven minutes after Ruben placed a call for roadside assistance, a tow truck driver arrived and found him lying dead next to his car. Police say he was shot in the chest and cops later discovered his wallet had also been emptied of its cash. Police believe they are searching for a robbery suspect who is willing to murder vicitms for no apparent reason. |

After completing a tour in Vietnam in the Air Force, Ruben Whittington turned his focus to law enforcement. He worked as an police officer in his native hometown of Norristown, Penn. before moving to Southern California to join the LAPD. Whittington spent 20 years with the LAPD, retiring in 1995 as a sergeant assigned to the Hollywood Station. Whittington is also the author of the novel, "Soldier Behind the Badge." In recent years, Ruben ran Mr. Handyman, located in Walnut, Calif. He also taught law enforcement classes at two local high schools for seven years.
Cops agree with Ruben's widow, Marsha: "There was no reason to do it. I want someone to read this and come forward with information." |
