My Story -- By Connie Junior |
|
| |
Kenny Junior was an adorable and lovable child. The 5-year-old boy was the pride and joy of his parents' life.
Kenny was a loving, unforgettable, and incredibly smart little boy.
Kenny Junior had just begun Kindergarten, an exciting time for him and his parents. He had spent the summer before playing T-Ball. And Kenny's dad had just bought him a puppy, a Jack Russell Terrier that Kenny named Dash. |

A Horrifying Crime |
|
| |
Kenny Junior was visiting his aunt in Chicago, where she lived in an apartment building on 81st street. When Kenny's mom came to pick him up, she parked across the street. As Kenny and his aunt walked down the stairs, Kenny became excited at the sight of his beloved mother, and began to run to her. Connie heard her sister yell, "Kenny! No! Stop!" She turned around to see the most terrifying sight a mother could ever see.
I turned around and witnessed a van striking my son head first then plowing over his body.
Connie and her sister did everything they could to save the child. 9-1-1 was called immediately. Kenny's aunt chased the van down the street until it made a left on Bishop Street. Connie even gave her son CPR.
It was one of the hardest, most heartbreaking things that I had to see and do; the other was burying my baby boy.
Paramedics rushed to the scene. He was rushed to Christ Hospital, where Connie said goodbye to her baby boy. From there, Kenny was airlifted to University of Chicago Hospital. Eighteen hours later, he died of brain swelling. At the tender age of five, Kenny Junior was pronounced dead on October 18, 2006.
I awake every morning in tears because I see the accident and hear the doctors telling my husband and me our son has no chance of survival.
A witness to the crime, Kenny's mother has constant nightmares of the accident that claimed her son's life, and is perplexed by how a person can run over a little boy and flee the scene.
It's hard knowing that there are people out there that do this and have no conscience about it whatsoever. |

Only A Few Clues Left Behind |
|
| |
Cops talked to several witnesses of the hit and run that claimed Kenny's life, and have compiled some tips. They say that the car that hit Kenny was a conversion van. It had tinted windows and was either charcoal gray with white stripes or two-toned burgundy colored.
Detectives think there's a chance that the driver may have been driving drunk, high, or without a license, and that is why they never even slowed down after they struck Kenny.
The van was coming from Loomis Street, and had made a stop on 81st Street just before it hit Kenny. After the accident it made a left onto Bishop Street. That's the last place it was seen.
Kenny's parents know just one thing: they want justice for their only child.
I know capturing the driver will not bring Kenny back, but I'm hoping that it will bring some kind of closure for us. |
