Oregon Authorities Search For Missing Friends |

Cops say that 61-year-old Cheryl Gibbs and Orange County, Calif. Jesuit priest, 52-year-old Charles Schwartz, were longtime friends. The pair was on vacation in Oregon and were due back on June 18, 2007. However, neither have been heard from since June 7 and family and friends say it was unlike both of them to not keep in touch if plans changed.
The missing friends were last seen at a Portland, Oregon hotel on June 7 and according to police, they never showed up to other destinations on their holiday together. Gibbs and Schwartz were headed on to the San Francisco Bay Area after their stop in Oregon. When Gibbs didn't show up for her shift at work, co-workers alerted authorities.
Cops report that Gibbs and Schwartz left for a day trip and never returned. Numerous personal belongings were left behind in their hotel room. Acquaintances describe Gibbs and Schwartz as avid hikers who love the outdoors. The twosome called their trip the "Eastern West Fest" and traveled parts of Idaho, Washington, Northern California, and the Southern coastal region of Oregon. Places they planned to visit included Couer D'Alene, Idaho, Mammoth Lakes, Calif., and the Hood River in Oregon. Cops believe they also planned to stop at various cathedrals along their trip for mass.
Investigators say that there's been no indication that either Gibbs or Schwartz have used credit cards since they went missing. Tracking the friends through cell phone records has been unsuccessful since they weren't carrying them.
Currently, there are missing persons reports issued for both Cheryl Gibbs and Charles Schwartz. Police say that they were traveling in a maroon 4-door Toyota Corolla with license plate number 5MKN560. |
