  Case Story
  Horseback Riders Discover Body
Two women who went for an early-morning horseback ride on Monday, May 28, 2007, were not prepared for what they were about to find. As they were nearing the entrance to a city park near U.S. Highwas 6 and Farrell Road in Joliet, Ill., they found the remains of a human body. Once the police arrived, they were able to determine that the body was that of a young, African-American female, possibly between 13 and 17 years of age. Police say the young girl had been shot once in the head and once in the chest before her upper body was wrapped in a plastic bag and set on fire. After searching the immediate scene of the discovery, and the surrounding area of the park, police were not able to find any evidence to prove that the girl had been shot at this location. They were instead led to believe that the girl had been shot somewhere else and then transported to this spot.

Will Clues Help Someone Recognize Jane Doe?
Police have not yet been able to identify the young girl's body, and are asking the public for assistance. The victim's fingerprints were sent to the Illinois State Police and the FBI, but so far there have been no matches. Police say the victim does not appear to match any missing person's reports at this time. At a press conference held the day after the discovery, police revealed as detailed a description as possible, in the hopes it would help somebody recognize who the girl was. The victim was between 5'2'' and 5'5" with a slim build and hair braided into a ponytail. She was wearing a light brown button-down shirt over a red tank top, gold hoop earrings, and a ring on her left hand. The coroner's office worked with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to build a composite image of what the young woman may have looked like. Police believe that this will be the vital clue in figuring out the identity of the victim.

  Girl Identified By Step-Brother
After the composite picture of the victim was broadcast on news stations on Tuesday, May 29, tips started flooding in to the Joliet Police Department. Families were afraid that it could be their missing loved one who had been found in the park. After he saw the picture on television, 19-year-old Ricardo Rivers called the police department to report his 14-year-old step-sister missing since the previous Friday. Police used DNA to confirm that the girl was Haqikah Suggs, a seventh grade student at Hufford Junior High School in Joliet, Illinois. Police say that Haqikah was last seen by friends at a party during the early morning hours of Saturday, May 26, 2007. When she didn't come home that night, her step-brother assumed she was staying with one of her other relatives. Detectives believe they are now one step closer to solving the mystery of what happened to Haqikah Suggs. They are still hoping for tips and clues from the public to help them piece together her last hours.
