An American Hero Victim Of Foul Play |
|
| |
Firefighter Salvatore Princiotta spent the tragic days and weeks after the World Trade Center attacks working at Ground Zero recovering the remains of those who had died on September 11. He served with the FDNY for 15 years and was the recipient of the Thomas R. Elsasser Memorial Medal. However, when he began suffering from a post-9/11 lung ailment, he retired to Arizona.
Yet, Princiotta's altruism didn't end when he moved across the country. He was one of a small group of FDNY firefighters who biked to Los Angeles in order to raise $29,000 for the Uniformed Firefighters Association Widows' & Childrens' Fund.
When police were called to the 43-year-old's Scottsdale residence on May 14, 2007, it looked to family members like Princiotta had succumbed to his post-9/11 medical ailments. A concerned relative who had not heard from Princiotta for some time called authorities who discovered the former firefighter's remains. Police tell AMW that it seemed like he had been dead for a few days.
Now, authorities believe Princiotta's passing was suspicious and have since opened up a homicide investigation to look further into the circumstances surrounding his death. Currently, police have named no suspects but have classified Princiotta's death as a murder. |
