  Case Story
Officer Wounded In Traffic Stop Shootout
Arizona Department of Public Safety detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred in Quartzsite, Arizona in the early morning hours of May 17, 2007.  Police say it all began with a routine traffic stop and ended with Quartzsite Marshal's Officer James Kemp being  injured in a shootout.  Locals in the community gave police leads identifying the shooter as 50-year-old Gregory Allen Cole, a man who has a federal warrant out for manufacturing a semi-automatic weapon.  Now, authorities say that Cole is also looking at attempted murder charges. While Officer Kemp is recovering nicely, the manhunt is underway for Cole.  Police also note that a couple that Cole had befriended in the last few months, 73-year-old Kenneth Miller and 69-year-old Betty Lou Japel, are now considered missing.  Cole is described as a white male, 6'3", 275 lbs, blue-green eyes, bald, and clean shaven.  He is considered armed and dangerous.  Authorities in Arizona are asking for the public's assistance in locating Cole, Miller, and Japel.
