Task Force Hunts Arsonist |

Newport, Rhode Island is a destination for tens of thousands of people every summer. The tourist-haven lures boaters and those who just want to relax on the waterfront for the weekend. It's a town with very little crime.
But now, local and federal law enforcement agencies have teamed up to hunt a serial arsonist. So far, no one has been hurt in the fires but the blazes have caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage and the community is on edge, wondering when the arsonist might strike again.

Fires Hit Multiple Buildings |

SInce March of 2007 a pre-Revolutionary era home, a souvenir shop, and a number of other buildings have been targeted. Police believe there have been six fires in all. All of the buildings that have been targeted have been wooden -- and all of the fires has started on the exterior of the buildings.
Thanks to heads-up police work, no one has been injured in any of the fires. Early on the morning of May 13, 2007 two fires broke out in town. A hospital security guard called police and told them he noticed plumes of smoke right around midnight. Within two minutes, detectives were on scene and they saw fire burning the back of the house. The cops began banging on the windows -- breaking them to get inside and alert the sleeping residents about the fire. Luckily everyone got out of the house safely.
Police are offering a five thousand dollar reward --hoping someone has information that will help them track down this serial arsonist.
