FBI: Rodriguez Likes It Hot |
|
| |
It sounds like something out of a movie -- male fugitive dresses up as the fairer sex to avoid capture. In fact, that storyline has made it to the big screen several times, and now the FBI wants to bring a Hollywood ending to the case of Augusto Rodriguez.
On April 18, 2005, the FBI says Rodriguez showed up at his ex-girlfriend's place of employment in Middletown, Penn. Agents say he kidnapped her at knifepoint, bound her hands and feet, and threatened to shoot her.
The FBI says Rodriguez then set out on a long drive down to Boca Raton, Florida. Two days later, agents report that Rodriguez's ex-girlfriend was able to get away and make contact with the police. But agents say Rodriguez himself took off. |

A Different Kind Of Disguise |
|
| |
Rodriguez has several distinctive characteristics that could lead to his capture, the FBI says. And the best clue of all is that he could be trying to pass himself off as a woman, according to authorities.
The FBI reports that Rodriguez may be wearing a wig, a full-length dress, and makeup to help disguise himself. Whether he's shopping in the men's department or the women's, agents hope Rodriguez will soon be trading in his outfits for a prison jumpsuit.
A former restaurant worker, Rodriguez has been known to buy food at grocery stores and then try to sell hors d'oeuvres out front for extra money. Cash could be a priority for Rodriguez, because agents say he's a compulsive gambler -- and he may be supplementing his casino winnings with welfare checks.
Although Rodriguez has no driver's license, that doesn't stop him from getting behind the wheel -- as when he allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend. He was last seen driving an off-white Chevy van that still hasn't been found.
One place to look is the local hospital. Rodriguez is a diabetic who requires insulin and is known to go to the emergency room instead of a clinic when he needs medical care. |
