Former U.S. Senator Attacked |
|
| |
Carol Moseley Braun, a former U.S. Senator, was walking from her car to her house on the night of April 27, 2007 after seeing a play in Chicago. As she got out of her car around 11:30 p.m., she noticed two people walking down the street. She continued on towards her front door.
As she reached to put her key into the doorknob, police say a man weilding a knife jumped out of some bushes near her home and began to grab at her purse. When he realized the purse was strapped across her chest, he slashed at the strap with his knife. The purse remained stuck, and he swung his knife again. This time, Carol raised her arm in defense, and the knife sliced at her hand.
According to cops, the attacker pulled at Carol's purse again, and she fell backwards, breaking her left wrist when she hit the ground. |

Good Samaritans Save A Life |

While this was happening, the couple walking down the street heard screams and turned around. University of Chicago junior Zachary Trayes-Gibson and freshman Rachel McFadden immediately rushed to the aid of the woman they saw struggling on the ground.
The two students ran towards the woman, scaring off her attacker in the process. While Rachel helped Carol off the ground and dialed 911, Zachary chased the would-be robber down the street.
The unidentified man got into a dark-green sport utility vehicle and quickly drove away. Police still do not know who this man is. |
