A Bizarre Chain Of Events |
|

Henderson County Kentucky was never a place known for violent crimes. Until one day when 23-year-old Heather Teague was sunbathing at Newburgh Beach and the unbelievable happened. From across the Ohio River, a man using a telescope to observe 4-wheelers racing across the landscape became fixated on something else. As he watched in horror, a man snuck up behind Heather as she lay in the sun and grabbed her by the hair.
As Tim Walthall continued to watch from across the river, unable to do anything to help the girl, a brief struggle ensued. By the time Tim was able to get in contact with the correct law enforcement agency, it was too late. Heather, held at gunpoint, had already been forced into the woods bordering the beach, and had disappeared.
When the police did arrive, they quickly began interviewing all potential witnesses. The story that they were able to piece together was rather complex, and left a lot of questions unanswered. |

Tim Walthall, who witnessed Heather's abduction from across the river, was able to work with police to develop a composite sketch of the person who dragged her off the beach. He described a man with long, bushy hair and a full mustache and beard who wasn't wearing a shirt. The man's face was partially obscured by something, possibly a mosquito net.
Police also interviewed a witness who reported seeing a red and white Ford Bronco parked next to Heather's car at the beach on the day of her disappearance.
Coincidentally, a camera had been set up near Newburgh Beach to monitor damage being caused to nearby crops by traffic. This surveillance video recorded a red and white Bronco parked at the beach next to Heather's car with somebody sitting in the front seat. But while somebody was still sitting in the Bronco, it appeared that somebody else was next to Heather's car.
This information, combined with other tips that came in to the police department, led authorities to suspect that a local resident, Marty Dill, was Heather's abductor. The composite sketch closely resembled Dill's driver's license photo, and he owned a red and white Ford Bronco at the time.
But when police went to question Dill at his home, he barricaded himself inside before fatally shooting himself in the head. After Dill's death, the investigation continued, and officers discovered a small amount of blood on the inside tailgate of Dill's Bronco. Unfortunately, the sample was too small and degraded to be used in DNA testing. Dill's wife has refused to speak with police on the matter, so nobody knows for sure if she has any information that could help solve the case.
Although Kentucky State Police think that Dill was responsible for the disappearance of Heather Teague, his death left them with a lot of unanswered questions about what happened to Heather. And people started to wonder if Dill had been the only person involved. |

Time Slowly Marches On |

The years since Heather's disappearance have been excruciating for her family and friends. Her mother, Sarah Teague, refuses to give up hope, and continues to do everything in her power to search for her daughter and keep Heather's story alive.
Tips still occasionally come into the police station regarding Heather's mysterious disappearance, but despite following up every lead, nothing further has been learned about the case. There have been suggestions that Dill was not acting alone, but Kentucky State Police say these claims have not been substantiated.
Heather's mom has countless questions she still needs answered, and will not be satisfied until she knows every detail. Sarah continues to plead with the public, asking for anyone with the tiniest amount of information to come forward.
This is the case of a beautiful young woman who disappeared from a small town. A small town where everyone talks, and family members and police find it hard to believe that somebody doesn't know something that could help crack this case. |
