Fatal Accident Kills Teen |
|
| |
It's the worst possible nightmare for a parent. The phone call from police telling them their 14-year-old son had been killed in a fatal car accident. That's what happened on March 24, 2007 to the parents of 14-year-old Darien Plass. Police in West Warwick, R.I. called them to tell them that the boy apparently took their minvan out of the driveway, and drove it into a pole, just a few years from his front door; police believe the teen had been drinking before the accident that killed him.
Immedietely, a makeshift memorial at the scene was erected for the teenage victim, and the scene of the crash would become the site of a second tragedy the next day. |

A Tragedy Compounded |
|
| |
Five hours after young Darien Plass was killed, one of his best friends, 18-year-old Andrew Coit showed up the accident site to mourn him. Andrew began playing his guitar, and weeping. He loved to sing, and he wanted to sing one last song for his friend. He was an honor student and was expecting a child in two weeks. But his child will have to grow up without a father, all because of what happened in a split second while he grieved for his friend.
Police know very little, but they do know that around 4 a.m. on March 24, 2007 they received a call of a man down. An ambulance crew found Andrew on the sidewalk and he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. So far, no one has come forward with any information about the vehicle that hit the young man. Police need that one call -- that one tip -- to help bring justice to both of these families. |
