Cops: Sex Offender On The Loose |
|
| |
The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department in Florence, Ala. is looking for a convicted sex offender. Police say on February 8, 2007, 45-year-old Richard Allen Sloan was released from a work release program to attend a mandatory court-ordered meeting. He hasn't been seen since.
Sloan was convicted in March 2002 of sexual abuse in the first degree. He was found guilty of sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl. He was sentenced to five years in the state penitentiary, serving 20 months in the prison and three years on supervised probation.
Police say that since his 2002 conviction Sloan has shown an unwillingness to comply with the state's sex offender laws. On January 4, 2007, police say Sloan was charged with failure to register his living accommodations and was sentenced to four years, serving two of those four years in the Lauderdale County Community Work Release Program. On February 8, he was supposed to return to the work release center. He never did.
Police say Sloan should be considered dangerous because he has a criminal history of abusing children and has refused to comply with Megan's Law by not registering his address with the local sheriff's office.
Police say Sloan tends to hide out in abandoned homes, or vacant hotel rooms. He has also spent nights in tents in area parks, or with people he doesn't know very well. |
