Case Story |
|
| |
Too Much, Too Soon? |
|
| |
Mary Nunes has lived a hard life since the day she was conceived. She was a high risk birth and born premature on February 19, 1996. At age 8, doctors diagnosed her with AVM malformation that causes her to get migraines, leg weakness, along with a number of symptoms that require her to have specialized medical treatment and observation. Mary's health issues are the main reason why officials say the court system was attempting to check up on her health and welfare.
Genevieve Kelley and her daughter Mary were scheduled to appear to the hearing in New Hampshire late November 2004. However, Kelley and her husband, Scott Kelley, failed to show up to court for fear of losing custody of Mary.
Authorities believe a week before their court date, the Kelleys took the young girl from her home. They say Mary may not even know that she was kidnapped. |

Cops: Locate the Horse, Locate The Girl |
|
| |
When the Kelleys didn't show up for the hearing the court ordered Mary's biological father to be named her legal guardian.
The family hasn't been seen since the day they left Whitefield, N.H. Authorities believe the only promising clue to finding Mary may be the horse the family is said to be traveling with.
Friends and family say horses are a part of their lives. Mary has been riding horses since she was five years old. Her mother, Genevieve, has been riding "western" style since high school. The family owned a horse and pony named Nicky II and Snippy. Cops say Nicky is the one they are looking out for now. He is described as a Gelding, possibly a Stallion, with dark bay color, light brown muzzle and star markings. |

Is There Another Secret Traveler? |
|
| |
Marshals say her non-custodial mother was pregnant just before she vanished. They say Mary could have another brother or sister who is almost two. Mary's mother is professionally known as Dr. Genevieve San Martin, M.D. She used to work and live in Whitefield, N.H. Officials believe she could be working somewhere else as a physician using a false name. Genevieve Kelley is a devout Catholic and speaks Spanish. She once served in the Air Force as a flight surgeon.
The child's stepfather, Scott Kelley, worked as a Special Education teacher in New Hampshire and was last known to reside in Aurora, Colo. Authorities believe he could also be teaching under a different name.
U.S. Marshals firmly believe the Kelleys are traveling in missions to Central or South America and in Canada. |
