  Case Story
Man Takes Son On The Run
Authorities say William Pumphrey first appeared in Bullhead City, Arizona in January 2007 with no prior connection to the city.  Pumphrey arrived at a local homeless shelter with a 4-year-old boy who he claimed was his son, Joshua Pumphrey.  Reportedly, all the pair had was the clothes on their backs. Pumphrey stayed at the homeless shelter until he and Josh were re-routed to a different homeless shelter that was more suitable to accommodate children.  People who knew Pumphrey in Bullhead City said that he claimed to be an ex-bishop from a Mormon church in Salt Lake City.  The FBI says that Pumphrey was able to stay at the shelter in exchange for doing odd jobs. Pumphrey worked at the shelter for about 5 weeks until February 20, 2007 when he was trusted with bank deposits in checks, $1400 in cash, and keys to a pickup truck.  That's when, cops say, William Pumphrey took off with Josh in tow.  Three days later, local authorities found the pickup truck Pumphrey had stolen in Kingman, Arizona.  There have been no reported car thefts in Kingman since.  Witnesses have claimed that Pumphrey has been seen at a supermarket in Williams, Arizona as recently as March 5, 2007.  Cops say William Pumphrey was last seen when he visited the Veterans Administration in Prescott, Arizona on March 3, 2007. He appears to be running between churches, missions and VA offices looking for  handouts. Cops are asking for the public's assistance in finding Josh and apprehending Wililam Pumphrey.
