  Case Story
Late Night Party Ends With Disappearance
Vigo County Police are searching for 20-year-old Scott Javins, an Indiana State University student who has been missing since the early morning of May 24, 2002. Police say Scott was last seen at a friend's house located near 22nd Street and First Avenue in his hometown of Terra Haute, Ind. At approximately 2 a.m., Scott's mother woke up, realized he was not yet home, and contacted him on his cell phone. Scott told her he was leaving his friend's house and heading home at that time. Witnesses say he left the residence by 2:30 a.m., in his new Honda Civic hatchback. Scott never made it home that night, and his family and friends have never learned what happened after he disappeared. Tips have continued to come in throughout the years since Scott's disappearance, but authorities are still waiting for that one tip that will actually lead them to some answers.

  Tips That Lead Nowhere
Tips led police to believe that Scott was seen on the Indiana State University campus during the afternoon of the day that he supposedly disappeared, but this information has never been confirmed by police. Detectives are investigating whether this was an accident, or if Scott was the victim of foul play. Police say that Scott may have been intoxicated at the time of his disappearance, since he had been at a party with his friends. Additional tips indicated that Scott may have been spotted on the north side of Terra Haute, a high drug area that is known to be dangerous. According to police this case could be linked to Scott's car, which was brand new, since the car has not been seen since Scott went missing. Scott has not contacted any of his friends or family members in the years since his disappearance, and there has been no activity on his credit card or cell phone. As the years continue to pass, tips keep coming in to the various law enforcement agencies that faithfully work on this case. But so far, nothing more has been learned about the night that Scott disappeared.

Five Years Of Searching Leads To Scott's Car
Over five years after Scott disappeared while driving home, police say an anonymous tip led them to a particular area of the Wabash River. Upon further investigation, a submerged car was found in the river, about a mile away from the area where Scott was last seen on May 24, 2002. The Terre Haute Police Department and the Vigo County Sheriff's Office used a crane and divers to pull the car from the river. Using the VIN number, police were able to positively identify the car as Scott's silver Honda Civic. Although at the press conference after the discovery police would not confirm whether or not a body was found inside the car, they did say the investigation was being looked into as a homicide. Family members and friends are now anxiously awaiting to hear what, if any, clues can be found in the car to help solve the mystery of Scott's disappearance.
