Joshua Ridings Back Behind Bars |
|
| |
Joshua Michael Ridings, the accused rapist of an 11-year-old Wheeling, West Virginia girl, is back behind bars. Ridings had escaped from an Indiana jail on Sunday night, launching a massive manhunt. Authorities say Ridings was arrested by FBI agents and police from Owensboro, Kentucky.
Ridings and another inmate, 22-year-old Larry G. Miller of Boonville, Indiana, fled from the Warrick County after they climbed onto a roof and jumped across a fence.
Miller was arrested shortly after his escape and authorities believed Ridings fled the area in a stolen Ford Escape.
The FBI had linked Ridings to two sexual assaults that happened over the last two years. While sitting in prison on unrelated charges, Riding was swabbed for DNA. The DNA linked him to the attack on an 11-year-old Wheeling, W.V. girl and to the sexual assault of a 30-year-old woman from Leitchfield, Ky.
In the Wheeling case the young girl said her abductor was naked from the waist down when he grabbed her as she walked home from a convenience store with a friend.
The kidnapper drove the victim to the grounds of a church near Blaine, Ohio, where he raped her. Just as the chief of the Wheeling Police Department was about to issue an AMBER alert, the victim was dropped off near the U.S. Post Office in Bridgeport, Ohio.
The story gained national attention and although the authorities received numerous leads but they were unable to identify him until the DNA match.
The FBI confirms that Ridings is the same man responsible for an attack on a woman in Leitchfield in August 2006. In that attack the victim had a yard sale at her home when the man showed up and haggled about furniture. He said he would return later in the day. When he returned the woman opened her door to him and realized he was naked. He then attacked and raped her. |
