According to the US Marshals Service, convicted murderer Shannon Parazoo is still at large after escaping from incarceration with his son, Alonzo Durgin. The pair were at a work-release program in Casper, Wyoming and never returned.Both men had been inmates at the re-entry center since 2006. Cops say that Parazoo contacted the center on February 9, 2007 to say that he was headed to his job at a Casper welding company, but never showed when a vehicle came to pick him up. Durgin used a pass that enabled him to leave and see his step-mother, Rose Parazoo. He never returned from the visit.
That very same day, Rose and her two children disappeared. Authorities believe that the whole family is hiding out in rural Montana, possibly at an Indian reservation.
Tipsters have told law enforcement that the two men are armed and dangerous and would go so far as to use children as human shields. US Marshals had a confirmed sighting of the fugitives five miles from the Canadian border where a vehicle, a Dodge van, was found. At the time, authorities thought that the Parazoo clan may have fled into Canada. However, days later the two men were spotted in Fort Belknap, an Indian reservation. Police say that Rose Parazoo grew up in the area.
Parazoo was convicted in 1985 of second degree murder stemming from an incident in Gillette, Wyoming where he beat a man and left him to freeze to death on the side of a road. Durgin was sent to prison in 1997 after he robbed a gas station and had a shootout with local cops when they tried to apprehend him. |
