A Little Girl's Grief |

"My Mom fell down ... she won't wake up and she's bleeding really good."
These are the chilling words that opened a 911 call early on the morning of December 5, 2006. Six-year-old Nicole had awakened in her East Rutherford, NJ apartment to find her mother, Patricia Hamilton, lying in a bloody mess on the floor. Her father was nowhere to be found.
"I don't know what happened to her ... I'm screaming but she won't answer me."
This little girl had just stepped into a waking nightmare. But police say it was only about to get worse.
"Could you bring my Daddy here? ... My Dad's not here. I think he's working."
Cops say the girl's father was not at work -- and he wasn't out picking up breakfast, either. Police say Nicole's father, Bernie Hamilton, had murdered her mother and taken off. |

Police say Bernie Hamilton has always been very transient. He's worked a series of odd jobs at gas stations and fast food restaurants, never staying with one employer for long.
His 11 year relationship with his wife, 46-year-old Patricia, was volatile at best, according to authorities -- although they're not sure what set Hamilton off on the night of December 4.
Police say all they know is that he stabbed his wife multiple times in the back. His young daughter, Nicole, was sleeping in the other room -- and she says she didn't realize what had happened until she woke up the next morning and found her mother's body.
Now, cops say there's only one way to bring justice to a frightened little girl -- by finding alleged killer Bernie Hamilton. |
