Vanderbilt-Whitney Murals Stolen From Gallery |
|
| |
Sometime between the midnight hours of July 28th and July 29, 2002, perpetrators broke into a gallery in West Hollywood and stole two Maxfield Parrish murals that belonged to Gertrude Vanderbilt-Whitney. Police say that the burglars entered the museum through the roof and cut the 64" X 74" paintings out of their frames. The paintings were panels from a six series mural that portrayed young, renaissance men and women walking in front of a Tuscan-style wall that is decorated with a large urn. The FBI has placed the theft on its Top Ten Art Crimes list and estimates that the combined value of the paintings to be $4 million. |
