Case Story |

Father And Son Vanish |
|
| |
David Decker's mother came into the police station on December 15, 2006 to report that her son was missing. Minutes later, David's grandma and grandpa burst through the door to report that his father, Ernest Decker, had also disappeared.
At first glance, this missing persons case seemed like an easy one for cops to answer. Authorities spent time reassuring the family that the father and son were probably together, but they say the family wouldn't rest. The Deckers claim they made repeated attempts to contact David and Ernest on their cell phone but neither of them was answering. They say the truck Ernest was driving and the 1997 Mercury Tracer David borrowed was also missing. Even more suspicious, the family says they found out a hold was put on their mail.
Cops agreed that something seemed odd and offered to send a couple of their officers to check it out. |

Cops On The Lookout For Clues |
|
| |
Authorities headed to the trailer park Ernest owned to search for clues to the Deckers' whereabouts. Cops say the initial check of the mobile home the father and son shared seemed normal: the door wasn't broken into and there was no evidence that anything had been stolen. Nonetheless, David and Ernest were nowhere to be found.
Cops questioned neighbors who susposedly had it out for Ernest because of problems he had with them as their landlord, but each person said they had not seen either of the Deckers in days.
It wouldn't be until the next day of the investigation that the case's only clue would reveal itself. |

Search Reveals A Startling
Discovery |
|
| |
A call came into dispatch that Ernest's truck had been found. Officials headed to the back of the woods near the trailor park where the caller explained the truck was hiding. When cops located the vehicle the keys were still in the ignitiion and the driver side door was unlocked. Also inside was clothing in the bed of the truck and various items, including a pair of eyeglasses.
Detectives immediately sent the evidence to the lab for testing to determine if they belonged to either of the men. By using high velocity tools, they discovered there was blood on the lens of the glasses from a blood splatter and went to the home to check for DNA. Using Ernest's hair brush and razor it was confirmed that the blood belonged to the missing father.
Since that discovery in December, cops have received no further leads and the family is still waiting for answers. |
