Case Story |

A Complicated Case |
|
| |
...They stole my husband's life, and in less than 30 seconds, changed my life forever.
Dion Peterson, 34, was gunned down June 8th, 2006 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The lives of those who loved him will never be the same.
Where do you start when the person you thought you would spend the rest of your life with is so abruptly taken away?
On the surface Dion's murder may have all the appearances of a carjacking turned deadly, but detectives with the Cincinnati Police Department think that there may be more to this story.
Dion spent the afternoon and evening at his mother's house, enjoying time with his family. Being an avid car lover, Dion couldn't help but admire a family member's recently customized orange and white, 1992 T-Top Camaro. Later in the evening he borrowed the flashy car, and called his wife Carolyn.
This was the last time I spoke with Dion, when he called me on the phone to tell me that he was going downtown to hang out with his sister.
Dion met his sister at a bar named Trotter's, where they stayed outside talking by the car, enjoying each other's company. Numerous admirers came by to check out the vehicle. But, around 11 p.m., three men dressed in black and wearing ski masks interrupted the otherwise peaceful night. Cops say the attackers approached from a nearby alley, and one of the men shot Dion multiple times. Witnesses say Dion's murderer used a silver revolver. The men then fled the scene of the crime, leaving Dion to die on the street. |

A Case Of Mistaken Identity? |
|
| |
What makes this case so hard is that the car my husband was driving was the target.
While an attempted carjacking has not been ruled out, investigators believe that the events of that night might be more complicated. Detectives think that this could be the case: Dion was falsely identified by his killers because of the car. Investigators think his attackers believed Dion was the owner of the customized car he borrowed the night of his death. Police say that the motive may have been revenge for a robbery that Dion did not even commit. Authorities also think that the killers may be linked to drugs, and say that two men in a burgundy Cadillac were reported as suspiciously watching Dion 15 minutes before he was shot to death.
I still cry in the middle of the night and hate to see the weekends coming because Dion is not here. Working on his case in any way possible is refreshing and exciting for me in the hopes that someone will come forward and those individuals will pay for what they have done, but most of all to never let his case go cold.
Carolyn Peterson lost her best friend and husband in an instant. Dion was a dedicated family man who loved sports, cars, movies, and traveling with his wife.
The most memorable times for me are our vacations we took together, when the world didn't matter and it was just the two of us.
