Cops: Illegal Narcotics May Be Involved In Editor's Death
Friends and family describe PC World senior editor Rex Farrance as popular, sensitive, and enthusiastic about life.  The 59-year-old physical-fitness buff lived with his wife, Lenore Vantosh-Farrance, and their son, Sterling in the northern California town of Pittsburg.  However, cops believe that everything may not have been as it seemed. On the evening of January 9, 2006, police allege that four unknown assailants broke into the Farrance home which sits on a usually tranquil cul-de-sac.  Investigators report that the ski-masked men charged Farrance who was retreating to his master bedroom where   Lenore Farrance was recuperating from foot surgery in bed.  Police say that the four men demanded money repeatedly and before the couple could comply, one of the men pistol-whipped Lenore and shot Rex Farrance in the chest.  Authorities currently believe that the incident was a targeted attack possibly linked to illegal narcotics. Pittsburg police Inspector John Conaty maintains that police have substantial reason to believe that Farrance and his wife were involved in the possession of and perhaps the distribution of illegal drugs.  Conaty did not originally specify what kind of drugs, but cops now say that say there was a considerable amount of marijuana found in the home.  The Farrance's son, Sterling, has said that the marijuana discovered in the home was grown for medical purposes and that his parents were not involved in anything illegal.  Police did not say if there were any other items stolen from the home.
