Search Continues For Convicted Murderer Escapee |

On February 2, 2004, Joyce Ziemlak called 911 and told police that her son, Thaddeus, had a rifle and was trying to kill her. The call was disconnected and when the police arrived, Joyce was found wounded in the house. She would die several hours later.
An Oregon judge eventually ruled 21-year-old Thaddeus Ziemlak guilty by way of insanity and sentenced him to an Oregon State Hospital. For the last two years, Ziemlak has received care at the facility and police say that his treatment had progressed to the point where he was allowed supervised visits out of the hospital.
A spokesman for the Department of Human Services, Tom Towslee, said that a trip was planned for November 9, 2006 to a Salem sporting goods store because Ziemlak wanted to buy some exercise equipment with his own money. Police say that Ziemlak and another patient arrived at the store under the care of a supervisor. When Ziemlak walked away while shopping, the supervisor was forced to choose between staying with Ziemlak or watching the other patient. That's when he got away.
Cops have been questioning Ziemlak's family members to see if he has made contact with them. He is described as white, 5'9", 170 lbs, having reddish-brown hair, and a large amount of facial acne. He was last seen wearing a tan, hooded jacket and jeans. |
