  Case Story
  Another Day, Another Round
Neighbors of Desiree Barritt and her boyfriend, Robert Spencer had gotten used to the sound of gunfire. They told police that Spencer liked to shoot his pistol in the yard at all hours of the day, just a short hop from Jacksonville Beach. The neighbors were so used to it that they didn't flinch when they heard shots on the afternoon of April 20th, 2006. But cops say that's when Spencer killed Desiree in cold blood.

  Small Fry Wannabe Gangster
Cops describe Spencer as a small fry drug dealer who fancies himself as a cartel kingpin. He spent his idle days as a white bread gang banger, causing trouble and misleading pretty young girls. Eighteen year-old Desiree Barritt was one of those girls. Spencer had a long track record of being cold-hearted. His previous girlfriend bore his child, then took a knife to her wrists and tried to kill herself right in front of him. Police say that didn't even faze him. What did was news that his current girlfriend Desiree was dating someone else. She and Spencer had broken up, and he moved out. Cops say that on the day he killed Desiree, he grabbed his gun, and asked his new roommate to give him a ride over to her house. He didn't even bother going inside, allegedly shooting her through the window instead.

  The Getaway
Witnesses saw him running away, trying to cover his face with his hands, almost bumping into one man at the end of his driveway. Cops say he hightailed it back to his place, about a mile away, drenched in dirt and sweat. The next day, he called another friend to pick him up and take him back over to Desiree's place. No one knows for sure what he fetched inside, but cops say he had to step over Desiree's body lying in the doorway to get it. Then, cops say, he had his ride drive him towards Miami. Spencer told him to take "the back roads." Somewhere around Orlando, near Epcot Center, he heard a news report that the cops were looking for him. That's when he jumped out and ran away. He's been on the run ever since. Cops think he may be lying low somewhere in Florida with other friends who don't know he's wanted for murder.
