End Of The Line For Prison Escapee |

Authorities say that the last of nine inmates who escaped from a Blythe, California jail was captured on March 27, 2008.
Police say that Robert Cruz is a notorious gang member who was awaiting trial on an attempted murder charge stemming from a June 19, 2005 shooting in Coachella, Calif.
Police had finally caught up to Cruz in December 2005 after trying for months to apprehend him. Cruz was joined in the jailbreak by 8 other inmates who have all been captured.
Authorities say that the inmates had been placed in an enclosed recreation area after a disturbance had broken out in the jail's living quarters. They escaped from that location just after 11 pm. Four of the men were captured within 35 minutes and three more were caught over the course of the next day.
Police originally believed that Cruz was still in the Riverside County area due to the fact that they both have a network of family and friends to rely upon. Authorities learned that Cruz ultimately fled to Mexico, where he was arrested in March 2008, after a tipster alerted the FBI. |
