  Case Story
  The Victim
Nine year-old Sherdavia Jenkins loved making art and did well in school. Her doll Polly at her side, she met an untimely death at the hands of criminals whose collective brainpower is probably far less than Polly's, as is their compassion for human life.  Sadly, Sherdavia's story and others like it are becoming all too common in America's "forgotten" inner-city war zones. A bullet from a high-powered rifle hit Sherdavia while she played on the front porch, making mud pies. Shot in the neck, Sherdavia crawled into the house, where she bled to death in her mother's arms.

  The Gunmen
Police have already caught one of the men they believe was involved in a shootout that took Sherdavia Jenkins' young life. Known on the street as "Yellow Man," Leroy Larose agreed to speak to investigators about the incident. They took him into custody shortly thereafter. Still out is Damon "Red Rock" Darling, a convicted drug dealer who may be hiding in Jacksonville, Georgia, or South Carolina. Cops say he was with Larose when they allegedly opened fire in the Liberty City housing project known as Pork and Beans.

  The Reaction
Sherdavia Jenkins isn't the only Miami kid that's been wasted by mindless street violence. In the past 12 months, 18 children ages 18 or younger bought it when they found themselves caught between fate and a gangland firefight. Jenkin's parents and police were frustrated when few witnesses came forward. But church and community leaders wouldn't let that stop them from finding Sherdavia's killers. After posting a $5000 reward, volunteers canvassed the neighborhood, knocking on doors and demanding answers. They hoped that a midday rally, a "march for peace," and a candelight vigil would all draw the nation's attention to the wave of violence plaguing their community. Now they need your help tracking him down.
