Police On Curry's Trail |
|
| |
Thanks to an AMW viewer, police in Toledo, Ohio nearly captured Lorenzo Curry and his fugitive girlfriend, Janora Sanders. Marshals say Curry is a man with a violent past who forced his girlfriend and their infant daughter to go on the run with him back in 2002
A September 9, 2006 airing of AMW brought in a tip that claimed Curry was working out of a barber shop in Toledo without a license. When police arrived at the shop they discovered Curry had been there that night and had actually watched himself on AMW. Police next tracked down the apartment where the fugitive couple lived in Toledo. No one was home; Curry and Sanders had already gathered some of their things and fled. They left behind some furniture, a few piles of clothes and toys... and photos of baby Aaliyah, who was then 4-years old.
Investigators uncovered that Curry had been living and working out of Toledo for over a year. While there, deputies say he was using the name Torino and going by the nickname "Chicago."
The Search Continues For A Con Man
Curry is wanted by the Louisville Marshals on check counterfeiting conspiracy charges. In the past, Chicago authorities say Lorenzo Curry was involved in a slew of violent crimes, including vehicle theft and armed assault.
The Louisville charges center around an investigation in 2002. Louisville authorities say that Curry set up a forgery device on his computer to print out checks. Then, according to cops, Curry was able to con his girlfriend Janora Sanders and three other accomplices to help with his scheme. Cops say Curry used his partners in crime to cash the checks for him.
It was all working beautifully until authorities caught on to his scam and the accomplices were rounded up. That is when police say Curry grabbed Janora Sanders and their newborn daughter Aaliyah and went on the run. |

Following the trail of arrests, police say Curry has used tons of different names over the years, including Lorenzo Edmunds, the middle name Sanchez and the name Lee Vance. Officials believe Curry's pattern of criminal behavior is dangerous and he will use drastic measures to stay out of custody. |

Photographic Reunion For A Grandmother |
|
| |
According to the U.S. Marshals, Aaliyah Sanders has been on the run with her father and mother since 2002. They say Aaliyah was a newborn when she was taken away from her extended family and their home in Louisville, Ky.
Aaliyah's grandmother, Gloria Sanders, has listed the little girl as missing with the Kentucky Missing Children's Report. Kentucky police have shown Gloria the photo of Aaliyah left behind by her fugitive parents. It was an emotional reunion for the grandmother who has not seen Aaliyah since she was in diapers.
Gloria says she fears that Curry's past as a repeat offender and abusive boyfriend put her granddaughter at risk. Gloria is also concerned for her daughter, a fugitive in her own right. She says Janora Sanders is very susceptible to Lorenzo Curry's persuasive power and believes that may cause more harm to Aaliyah. |
