  Case Story
Baby Brutally Beaten, Babysitter On The Run
Around 8:00 p.m. on Nov. 13, 2003, cops responded to a call at Moses Cone Hospital about an infant with severe head injuries. The new babysitter, Evangeline "Ava" Vazquez, claimed that eight-month old Isias Gomez-Silva suffered from a fall. But cops didn't buy it. Authorities showed that the baby had sustained major injuries from being violently shaken. There were skull fractures on the front and rear of Isias's head, making cops believe that she hit the infant on the head with a hard object. Or even slammed Isias into the wall or the floor.  Doctors said just one of these injuries would have put him into critical condition and tragically, even after being airlifted to another hospital, Isias died.

  Mystery Woman
When Vazquez heard there was a warrant for murder issued to her, cops say she took off with her husband, Alexi Osorio, and her three-year-old son. She had only been watching the baby for a short time during work days and not much is known about her. Cops do know that Vazquez and her husband are from Mexico. They speak Spanish and are probably staying in a Hispanic community in the United States or back in Mexico. According to officials, it is likely that she is working with children again or trying to get another babysitting job.
